What is an MLCC?
A multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) is a passive electronic component that stores electrical charge and releases it as the surrounding circuitry requires power. The component takes its name from its construction, in which hundreds of alternating layers of ceramic dielectric material and metal electrodes are stacked within a single compact package. MLCCs perform functions fundamental to modern electronics, including stabilizing voltage, smoothing power delivery, and filtering electrical noise. They are the most widely produced electronic component in the world, present in virtually every device that contains a circuit board, and a typical smartphone incorporates approximately one thousand of them. AI servers require MLCCs in substantially greater quantities and at more demanding performance specifications, which only a limited number of manufacturers worldwide are able to produce at scale.
